(???) the other saying is related to cricket, because: in cricket, you throw(bowl)a cricket ball at the batsmen, then the batsmen hits the ball away.
Sort of correct.
It is because the batsman in cricket has to wait until the ball is nearly at him. Then he needs to react the best way possible.
