My Dog Ben!

BEN
This speech is about my dog Ben. Have you ever lost a pet? Well I have. Ben was my 14 year old boxer dog which sadly we had to put down on Thursday the 5th of July 2007. He was all brown except for the fluffy white patch on his neck. One of the reasons we put him down was because he was so dependent on us because he needed help to walk, (not to mention he was deaf also) .He was a jolly little guy but sadly he had hip dysplasia and had had multiple tumours and finally he didn’t have any control of his bladder. It sounds pretty sad and it was but we believe it was the right thing to do. He was a very comforting dog and had been in our family all my life. We also have another dog who gave Ben so much grief by growling at times at Ben and sometimes even trying to tear him apart. With his amazingly kind hearted nature he didn’t fight back, so we had to help Ben all the time. Every time we got a ball out for Ben to play with he would go running along to get it which made us think he was a puppy again. My grandparents also had 2 boxer dogs both didn’t make it past the age of 10 which is the average age for a boxer dog. When my sister and I were young we would play with Ben all the time and he would never mind. So we thought he had a pretty good life and had had fun all the time (except for when Flick, our other dog, was attacking Ben). What would you have done if your dog had all these problems? Would you put him down? But was it the right decision? It may not have been because you never know when your pet is going to pass away and some problems may have just been temporary. So what would you do in this situation? It’s really hard to make the decision but it has to be made. If you have been through a similar situation you would know how it felt. If you haven’t been through a similar situation and you have a pet then spend as much time with your pet as you can. Eventually your pet will pass away or the time will come for you to maybe have to put your pet down.

Poor Ben. i also think it's the right thing to do for him. He sounds like a nice dog, probably smarter than Marshall. Do you know what happened to Marshall? We had to give him away. I don't know why , which makes it very frustrating for me.

Yeah I think it was the right thing to do too.

That's a bit sad about Marshall.

I rally liekd that speech. I rekon it was kind of unfair about that speech competition at KNS, but life ain't fair. Just like Ben having to be euthenasied.

Why do you think it was unfair?

I thin of it this way...one human year is equak to seven dog years. Therefore, your dog lived to be about 98! That is fantastic! It sounds like your dog had a wonderful life. The fun he had enjoyed for all of those years was no longer possible and just being able to do normal daily activities was impossible. It is a sad and difficult decision, but the correct one in my poinion. I have been through something very similar and made the same decision.
